Sports in the Park Project

The International Studies Foundation and the local government of Miami, in collaboration with Soccer Communities of America and International Finance Bank, have created an interested project focused on social integration via sports for children and young people.

The Sports in the Park Project  involves children and young people at risk of social exclusion by utilizing public spaces and urban parks within Miami in order to offer value-based instruction, healthy living and teamwork by way of an alternative use of free time dedicated to a unique learning opportunity designed to help children coming from disadvantaged communities.

Value-based instruction, healthy living and teamwork through sport.

The formula is simple – use the power of football and bring it to the community to enrich the lives of children by removing economic obstacles and make it into the family schedule as a recreational or weekend activity.

Our program, funded by sponsors and foundations, provides the financial resources to organize a recreational offering where children can celebrate soccer in a safe place.

ROBERTO CLEMENT PARK

The program has begun to take place at the Roberto Clemente Park, in the Wynwood area of Miami, in January 2017. The beneficiaries are 45 children between the ages of 6 and 12, from disadvantaged areas of the city. The idea is to have between 60 and 80 children in the program in a near future.

NEXT STEPS: DORAL

We are going to implement the program in parks of Doral, in collaboration with the Honorable Mayor of the City, Juan Carlos Bermúdez, for the underserved children of this community.

“El Camino de Santiago” Project

In direct support of its “City of Miami High Impact Service Plan 2016 – 2017, the International Studies Foundation and the City of Miami jointly offer students between the ages of 12 and 14 the opportunity to take part in a very unique experience in Spain by participating in “El Camino de Santiago”, a pilgrimage route.

The students will go over the steps of the medieval pilgrims along one of the main routes of El Camino. This path will lead them to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Galicia (Spain).

Opportunity to travel to Spain and share the experience.

The main goal of the Project is to highlight the effort and achievement of the children from disadvantaged families by giving them the opportunity to travel to Spain and to share the experience with a similar group of Spanish students. The Project is carried out along with our students from the Access Program, which we have developed with the US Embassy in Spain.

The participants will be in contact with Spain’s historical richness and will learn to value moral principles such as teamwork, creative thinking, new strategies, evaluation of their achievements, while they establish new friendships.

A positive experience for everyone involved that may have a wonderful impact in their lives.

Sports and Achivement Academies with Real Madrid Foundation

The International Studies Foundation and the Real Madrid Foundation have created the Sports and Achievement Academies in the US for children with limited economic and social resources.

The program’s objective is to enhance the student’s education in life values as well as their soccer training. Participating children will also learn about moral values, gender equality, social integration and healthy habits.

In collaboration with the Real Madrid Foundation.

Currently, the Sports and Achievement Academies Program is being developed in two public schools of Florida for underprivileged children between the ages of 7 and 13. The academies are completely free for all the 120 children who take part in the Program.

These schools are located at the Ernest R. Graham K-8 Center in Hialeah and the Kensington Park Elementary School. With the collaboration of the local government, this program will also be implemented at the Kendall Campus (Miami Dade College).

The Program is designed to offer children the opportunity to enhance their education in sports and moral values in partnership with one of the best soccer organizations in the world.
